2025 AÑO JUBILAR POR EXCELENCIA//2025 JUBILEE YEAR PAR EXCELLENCE

 

Cuando enfilamos la recta del ocaso de este 2024 con sus avatares, poco a poco nos vamos acercando a un año especial para el mundo de la cristiandad,

2025, año declarado jubilar por el papa Francisco.

Es por ello por lo que el Primado de la Iglesia Católica, decretó que el 24 de diciembre de 2024 (víspera de la Navidad) se produzca la apertura de la Puerta Santa de la Basílica de San Pedro del Vaticano. Igualmente, el 29 del mismo mes abra su Puerta Sagrada la Catedral de San Juan de Letrán, la cual cumple 1700 años de existencia. Y el primer día del año 2025 (Solemnidad de Santa María la Madre de Dios) la abrirá la Basílica de Santa María la Mayor de Roma. El 5 de enero le toca el turno de

hacerlo a la Basílica (Extramuros) de San Pablo.  Excepto la Basílica Papal de San Pedro, que cerrará su Puerta Santa el 6 de enero de 2026 (Festividad de la Epifanía) los otros templos lo harán el 28 de diciembre de 2025, (Festividad de los Santos Inocentes).

El término de “Basílica” viene vinculado a edificio Regio (Real), que griegos y romanos destinaban a sede de tribunales. Posteriormente los cristianos lo adoptaron a lugares de culto, que por su importancia y magnitud recibían este título. Siendo consideradas “Basílicas Mayores” las ubicadas en Roma, todas las demás se consideran “Basílicas Menores” con independencia de su grandiosidad. En España la más importante es la Basílica-Catedral de Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza.

Corresponde al papa el declarar los años jubilares, con motivo de un determinado acontecimiento o efemérides. El papa Calixto II en 1122, estableció que cada vez que la festividad del Apóstol Santiago (25 de julio) coincida en domingo, sea declarado Año Santo Jubilar Compostelano. No será hasta 2027, en que vuelva a coincidir el 25 de julio (Festividad del Santo) en domingo.

Se da la concordancia de que coincidiendo con este año jubilar, el 10 de diciembre de 2025, se celebra el centenario de la aparición de Nuestra Señora de

Fátima a Sor Lúcia dos Santos (la pastorcilla portuguesa) en la Casa de la Virgen de Pontevedra, para pedir que divulgase la devoción de los “Cinco Primeros Sábados de Mes”. En el 75 º aniversario asistió en representación del papa Juan Pablo II, el Nuncio Apostólico. En el lugar donde estaba ubicada la celda de Sor Lúcia, hay hoy un gran crucifijo, realizado por el escultor madrileño, Salvador Fernández-Oliva. El edificio está custodiado por las HH del Instituto Servidoras del Señor y de la Virgen de Matata pertenecientes a la familia religiosa del  Verbo Encarnado, asistidas por un grupo de voluntarios.

 Aún falta mucho para saber quién presidirá esta celebración, tan importante.

As we approach the challenge of the sunset of this 2024 with its vicissitudes, we are gradually approaching a special year for the world of Christianity, 2025, the

year declared jubilee by Pope Francis.

That is why the Primate of the Catholic Church decreed that on December 24, 2024 (Christmas Eve) the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican will be opened. Likewise, on the 29th of the same month, the Cathedral of St. John Lateran, which celebrates 1700 years of existence, will open its Sacred Door. And on the first day of the year 2025 (Solemnity of St. Mary the Mother of God) it will be opened by the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome. On January 5 it is the turn of the Basilica (Outside the Walls) of St. Paul.  Except for the Papal Basilica of St. Peter, which will close its Holy Door on January 6, 2026 (Feast of the Epiphany) the other temples will do so on December 28, 2025, (Feast of the Holy Innocents).

The term "Basilica" is linked to a Regio (Royal) building, which the Greeks and Romans used as the seat of courts. Later the Christians adopted it to places of

worship, which due to their importance and magnitude received this title. Since those located in Rome are considered "Major Basilicas", all the others are considered "Minor Basilicas" regardless of their grandeur. In Spain, the most important is the Basilica-Cathedral of Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Zaragoza.

It is up to the pope to declare jubilee years, on the occasion of a certain event or anniversaries. Pope Calixtus II in 1122, established that every time the feast of the Apostle Santiago (July 25) coincides with a Sunday, it is declared the Holy Jubilee Year of Compostela. It will not be until 2027, when July 25 (Saint's Day) will coincide again on a Sunday.

It is agreed that coinciding with this jubilee year, on December 10, 2025, the centenary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima to Sister Lúcia dos Santos (the Portuguese shepherdess) in the House of the Virgin of Pontevedra is celebrated, to ask her to disseminate the devotion of the "Five First Saturdays of the Month". On the 75th anniversary attended on behalf of Pope John Paul II, the Apostolic Nuncio. In the place where Sister Lúcia's cell was located, there is today a large crucifix, made by the Madrid sculptor, Salvador Fernández-Oliva. The building is guarded by the Sisters of the Institute Servants of the Lord and of the Virgin of Matata, belonging to the Religious Family of the Incarnate Word.

 There is still a long way to go before we know who will preside over this important celebration.
