PRIMERA PROMOCIÓN ACADEMIA GENERAL BASICA SUBOFICIALES E. T.//
PRIMERA PROMOCIÓN ACADEMIA GENERAL BASICA SUBOFICIALES E.T.

FIRST PROMOTION BASIC GENERAL ACADEMY
NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS E.T.
On July 15, 1977, the students of the First Promotion of the Basic General Academy of Non-Commissioned Officers, after passing the third year of training and studies, received the Royal Dispatches, in a ceremony that took place at the Academy in Talarn located in the Pyrenean
Basin of Tremp. The event was attended by Their Majesties King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia. The new Sergeants were accompanied on the
esplanade by the students of the first year belonging to the Third Promotion,
who had taken a solemn oath to the Flag. (At that time, those of the Second
Division were carrying out the specific phase of their Weapon or Corps).
Only a week later, we had to join our
destination Unit, it was a quite drastic change, going from student to
professional, especially those of us who did the internships, in the same
Academy with the students of the Third, others were luckier and did it in
different Units.
Previously on July 1, we had had the End of Course Act, in the Academy of the Arm or respective Corps, in my case the Artillery in which the First Promotion, would carry out the first term in the Detachment of the Academy in Hoyo de Manzanares and then in that of Fuencarral (The subsequent promotions would go to the one in Segovia) In this Act of the Artillery Academy, they would give us the diplomas of the courses taken. The next day we would
return to Talarn, to make preparations for the Delivery of Dispatch.During them, we were unlucky enough to lose a teammate. On July 3, he entered as second commander of the guard, in the review of weapons, which is carried out at the end of the service, there was a fortuitous shot from a member of the guard that hit the comrade in the head. It was the second casualty by shooting of the Promotion, the first was another student, who was on his last guard duty in the Sahara, before joining the Academy as a student, when some insurgents attacked his Post, ending his life. Two students killed in
the Act of Service, two young people who had sworn to Spain to Serve until they die, as I would pray on the slope of the Santa Engracia ravine.
In a year and a month, God willing, we will be
able to relive those exciting moments, where a more or less long adventure
began, becoming the first sergeants from an Academy, who at the time of
retirement, depending on their worth, luck, merits and other circumstances,
would reach different goals, both in military and civilian life, with degrees of different kinds, courses
taken in Spain or abroad, in Schools, Academies and even Universities. Basic taught us that discipline also in study
has its compensation.
Now, almost 50 years after the end-of-year
anniversary, I can only encourage the students who are starting out, to face
their professional lives with optimism, a future that, although it is always
uncertain, is still exciting, at the same time, to remember those who left us,
who unfortunately are not few, and to keep their memory alive. wherever they are, they will also experience
this solemn anniversary.
