Con un sencillo acto, la Brigada Ligera “Galicia VII” BRILAT, quiso resaltar el 250 aniversario del nacimiento del Teniente General Morillo, héroe de la Guerra de la Independencia y cuyo
La Brigada con proyección internacional, perteneciente a la División Castillejos, quiso de esta forma honrar la figura de este militar llamado Pablo Morillo y Morillo, cuyo aniversario de su nacimiento tuvo lugar el pasado 5 de mayo, dado que nació el 5 de mayo de 1775, si bien aunque en la Base se llevaron a cabo diverso actos de dicha efemérides, con el fin de hacer participe de la misma al pueblo, se realizó el
Pero sin duda la más
significativa sería la de Puente Sampayo (Pontevedra) donde se enfrentó nada
menos que a las tropas de Napoleón bajo el mando del mariscal Michel Ney, donde
se aprovecharon todos los recursos, hasta incluso improvisados cañones
realizados con troncos de árboles, para impedir que pudiesen vadear las tropas
francesas el rio Verdugo. Esto marcó el principio del fin del dominio francés
en nuestro país.
Aunque es verdad que, Pablo
Morillo llegó a alcanzar el grado de Teniente General, nunca se le valoró su gesta
como se debiera y lo que contribuyó a que su nombre no fuese borrado de la
memoria es el hecho que las instalaciones de la Base de Figueirido lleven su
nombre como merecido homenaje de alguien que hizo cambiar el rumbo de la
historia en España.

belonging to the Castillejos Division, wanted in this way to honor the figure
of this soldier named Pablo Morillo y Morillo, whose anniversary of his birth
took place on May 5, since he was born on May 5, 1775, although various acts of
this event were carried out at the Base,
in order to make the people participate in it, this act was held on
Saturday the 10th in the city, in the surroundings of the Monument to the Heroes
of Puente Sampayo, in which, although Pablo Morillo was a sailor, he
distinguished himself as a great strategist in the manipulation of artillery
weapons. Based on the experience gained in its interventions in Toulon and
Trafalgar.
But undoubtedly the most significant would be
that of Puente Sampayo (Pontevedra) where he faced none other than Napoleon's
troops under the command of Marshal Michel Ney, where all resources were used,
even improvised cannons made with tree trunks, to prevent the French troops
from fording the Verdugo River. This marked the beginning of the end of French
rule in our country.
Although it is true that Pablo Morillo reached
the rank of Lieutenant General, his feat was never valued as it should have
been and what contributed to his name not being erased from memory is the fact
that the facilities of the Figueirido Base bear his name as a well-deserved
tribute from someone who changed the course of history in Spain.
