CIEN AÑOS DEL ENCUENTRO SOR LUCIA Y NIÑO JESUS EN PONTEVEDRA
A finales de diciembre de 1925, Lucía
dos Santos, la postulante a novicia de las HH. Doroteas, a quien le faltaba un
mes y trece días para cumplir los diecinueve años, se encontraba realizando labores
como auxiliar en el colegio de la Orden en Pontevedra, por lo que un día que sacaba
a quemar basura al huerto vio por primera vez a un niño merodeando por la zona próxima
a este y al que infructuosamente intentó que repitiese con ella la oración del
Ave María. Ante su reticencia a repetir la oración, en aquella ocasión le dijo
que fuese a la iglesia parroquial, situada un poco más arriba y le dijese a la
Virgen ante su imagen la siguiente jaculatoria: ¡Oh, Madre mía del Cielo!,
¡dadme a Vuestro Niño Jesús! Se
despidió asintiendo y se fue.
Posteriormente el 15 de febrero
del nuevo año, Lucía encontró de nuevo al niño, quizás, lo que en principio era
un día cualquiera, como son los días de febrero en esta ciudad, soleado y con
frio, cálido y lluvioso, o con una ventisca húmeda de las que llegan del océano. Cambios repentinos propios de este mes y a
los que aún hoy no logramos acostumbrarnos, no en vano un viejo refrán de esta tierra
dice: Hay febrerillo loco, con tus veintiocho, pues si alargaras más,
tres días o cuatro, no quedaría ni perro ni gato. Al ver al
niño, le preguntó: ¿Has pedido a la Madre del Cielo a su Niño Jesús?
Como respuesta el Niño contestó como
solemos hacer los gallegos, formulando otra pregunta:
¿Y tú, has difundido por el
mundo, aquello que la Madre del Cielo te pidió? Fue entonces cuando su
rostro se hizo resplandeciente, la religiosa comprendió que era el Niño Jesús y
le indicó entonces las dificultades con las que se encontraba para poder
hacerlo. Jesús le hizo saber que con obediencia y con la gracia que Él conferiría
sería suficiente, para ser divulgado y lo conociese el mundo.
Lo que la Madre le había confiado a sor Lucía, era la devoción de los cincos primeros
Es por ello por lo que este año
jubilar, gente de más de 70 países, ya ha visitado la Casa Santuario de Pontevedra,
donde tuvieron lugar ambas apariciones.
Como recuerdo de este día. En el
patio en la década de los sesenta, fue colocada una imagen del Niño Jesús,
enviada por el Apostolado de Fátima de los Estados Unidos. Imagen realizada por
las Hermanas Clarisas de Border Town, como homenaje al presidente John F.
Kennedy, quien nació el 29 de mayo de 1917, casi coincidente con la primera
aparición de Nuestra Madre a Lucía, Francisco y Jacinta (13 de mayo de 1917) en
Fátima. Kennedy fue asesinado en Dallas el 22 de noviembre de 1963.
La imagen americana, se encuentra
actualmente en una peana, colocada en la capilla inferior del antiguo colegio
de las Doroteas de Pontevedra, siendo sustituida en el patio por otra recién estrenada,
porque de este modo, puede ser vista por todos los que visitan la Casa
Santuario de la Virgen, siendo de gran regocijo sobre todo para los
norteamericanos que peregrinan a ella.

ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF THE MEETING OF SISTER LUCIA AND NIÑO JESUS IN
PONTEVEDRA
At the end of December 1925, Lucía dos Santos,
the postulant for novice of the Doroteas Sisters, who was one month and
thirteen days away from her nineteenth birthday, was working as an assistant at
the Order's school in Pontevedra, so one day when she was taking the garden out
to burn garbage she saw for the first time a child prowling around the area
near it and who unsuccessfully he tried to get her to repeat with her the
prayer of the Hail Mary. Faced with his reluctance to repeat the prayer, on that
occasion he told her to go to the parish church, located a little higher up and
say to the Virgin before her image the following ejaculation: O my Mother
in Heaven, give me Your Child Jesus! He nodded goodbye and left.
Later, on February 15 of the new year, Lucía
found the child again, perhaps, what was originally an ordinary day, such as
the days of February in this city, sunny and cold, hot and rainy, or with a
humid blizzard of those that come from the ocean. Sudden changes typical of this month and to
which we still cannot get used to, not in vain an old saying of this land says:
There is a crazy febrerillo, with your twenty-eight, because if you
lasted longer, three days or four, there would be neither dog nor cat left.
When he saw the child, he asked him: "Have you asked the Mother
of Heaven for her Child Jesus?" In response, the Child answered as
we alicians usually do, asking another question: And you, have you spread throughout the world
what the Mother of Heaven asked of you? It was then that his face became resplendent,
the nun understood that it was the Child Jesus and then indicated the
difficulties she encountered in being able to do so. Jesus let him know that
obedience and the grace that He would confer would be enough to be spread and
known to the world.
What the Mother had entrusted to Sister Lucy
was the devotion of the first five Saturdays of the month, to
make amends for the offenses against her Immaculate Heart, who for five months
in a row, on the first Saturday of each of them, would keep company for 15
minutes before her Image, meditating on the mysteries, praying the Holy Rosary, She would assist them at the hour of death,
with the graces to take them to heaven. This petition, known as the Great
Promise, had been made on December 10, 1925. Just two months before,
the encounter with the Child in the courtyard. 
That is why this jubilee year, people from more
than 70 countries have already visited the Sanctuary House of Pontevedra, where
both apparitions took place.
As a souvenir of this day. In the courtyard in
the sixties, an image of the Child Jesus was placed, sent by the Apostolate of
Fatima of the United States. Image made by the Poor Clare Sisters of Border
Town, as a tribute to President John F. Kennedy, who was born on May 29, 1917,
almost coinciding with the first apparition of Our Mother to Lucia, Francisco
and Jacinta (May 13, 1917) in Fatima. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas
on November 22, 1963.
The American image is currently on a pedestal,
placed in the lower chapel of the old school of the Doroteas de Pontevedra,
being replaced in the courtyard by another recently branded, because in this
way, it can be seen by all those who visit the Sanctuary House of the Virgin,
being of great joy especially for the Americans who make a pilgrimage to it.
