 COI Y LA POLITICA o LA POLITICA DEL COI

El Comité Olímpico Internacional con sede en Lausana (Suiza) es un Organismo encargado de organizar los Juegos Olímpicos con una periodicidad de cuatro años.

Durante el desarrollo de los Juegos, tienen lugar distintas competiciones de deportes muy variados, donde el principal es el atletismo.

Pero algo que debiera unir a naciones y deportistas, enseguida se dejó inmiscuir por la política, uno de los que en más se notó fue en los de México 68, en los que hubo el denominado Black Power (Poder Negro). El más traumático fue Múnich 72, donde varios atletas de Israel, fueron asesinados por un grupo terrorista.

Pero en todos con más o menos intensidad siempre la política, se entremezcló en los JJOO, ya fuera porque países hiciesen boicot a los mismos renunciando a participar o porque simplemente la Organización prohibiese su participación, en represalia por alguna acción de guerra u otra causa de índole similar.

Es cierto que, en determinados momentos, la Organización, permite la participación a deportistas en los Juegos., bajo bandera neutral, pero mientras que se aplican medidas restrictivas y drásticas con unos países, no ocurre lo mismo, cuando las medidas a aplicar afectan a otros, aunque esos países lleven a cabo acciones que tienen poca diferencia en su idiosincrasia de los de los países vetados con anterioridad.

Como atleta, siempre fui partidario, que el deportista no es el que debiera ser castigado, por un hecho que realizó su gobierno. Preparar un campeonato a cuatro años vista conlleva, mucha disciplina, entrenamiento, sacrificios, renuncias y puede que incluso por avatares de la vida, igual no tenga otra oportunidad para poder tomar parte en otros Juegos, que los que había conseguido su marca mínima, para poder hacerlo en aquellos que preparó.

En definitiva, es una Política de los Juegos, porque los Juegos, se dejan acariciar por la Política.

IOC AND POLITICS or THE POLITICS OF THE IOC

The International Olympic Committee, headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, is the organization responsible for organizing the Olympic Games every four years.

During the Games, various competitions take place in a wide variety of sports, with athletics being the main focus.

But something that should unite nations and athletes was quickly entangled in politics. One of the most noticeable examples was the Mexico City 1968 Games, marked by the Black Power movement. The most traumatic was Munich 1972, where several Israeli athletes were murdered by a terrorist group.

But in all of them, to varying degrees, politics has always been intertwined with the Olympics, whether because countries boycotted them by refusing to participate or because the Organization simply prohibited their participation in retaliation for acts of war or other similar reasons.

It is true that, at certain times, the Organization allows athletes to participate in the Games under a neutral flag, but while restrictive and drastic measures are applied to some countries, the same does not happen when the measures to be applied affect others, even if those countries carry out actions that are little different in their idiosyncrasies from those of the previously banned countries.

As an athlete, I have always maintained that the athlete should not be punished for an action taken by their government. Preparing for a championship four years in advance involves a great deal of discipline, training, sacrifices, renunciations, and perhaps, due to life's twists and turns, they may not have another opportunity to participate in the Games for which they achieved the qualifying standard.

Ultimately, it is a matter of Games policy, because the Games are susceptible to the influence of politics.
