 LA LEGIÓN FIEL A LA TRADICIÓN

Un año más en el día de Jueves Santo, la Brigada de la Legión española, se convirtió en la Unidad del Ejército, que supo conectar con el pueblo, no solo malagueño, sino también del resto de España. Bien “in situ” los más privilegiados, o bien a través de las distintas cadenas de televisión que transmitieron el acto, tanto de desembarco, como acompañando al Cristo de la Buena Muerte, en la ciudad de Málaga.

Tal es la expectación que esto causa, que muchos son los que, desde tempranas horas, ocupan los lugares de paso, para no perder la posibilidad de verlos evolucionar desde la primera fila, donde también en momentos determinados, durante los altos en la marcha, aprovechan para poder fotografiarse con los militares de esta Brigada puntera.

El desembarco de un buque de transporte de la Armada, en hileras de a uno a paso ligero, exige una sincronización de movimientos, para evitar una caída en la estrecha pasarela. No menos sincronización tiene los componentes de la escuadra de gastadores. Con unos ejercicios de movimiento del fusil, que arrancan los más efusivos aplausos de los presentes. Así como la salida a la plaza del piquete de honores portadores del Cristo de la Buena Muerte.

Toda la ejecución de los distintos movimientos y desfile siempre viene marcada por los distintos toques, efectuados por la Banda de Guerra de la Legión, en especial el ritmo marcado por los tambores, determinante para dar la cadencia de 160 pasos por minuto en un desfile.

La Brigada de la Legión, que forma parte de la División Castillejos, se distingue de otras brigadas hermanas, por su uniforme especial, (verde oliva) con su prenda de cabeza “chapiri”. Pero, sobre todo, porque sabe conectar como ninguna con el pueblo ya sea español, o los locales del extranjero, en las tierras en las que acude de misión. Fui testigo del cariño, que le profesaba la gente libanesa, ya que con ellos me tocó estar en la OPERACIÓN LIBRE HIDALGO I.

Mientras Unidades esconden sus gentes tras los muros de sus cuarteles y la mayoría de ellas envía una mínima representación a las procesiones, (a lo sumo un piquete y la banda). La Legión sigue manteniendo sus tradiciones, sus himnos y sus canciones. ¿A quién no se le pone un nudo en la garganta al escuchar “El novio de la muerte”?  Además, no regatean esfuerzos, de presentarse con una “Bandera” (Batallón) o un “Tercio” (Regimiento). Mostrando el orgullo, de tomar parte en un acto, ya sea civil o religioso.

Ayer Viernes Santo, en Pontevedra, de toda una Brigada (la BRILAT) solo iba la banda y con las autoridades el general jefe, de la guardia civil una teniente y  un capitán, de la Escuela Naval, dos tenientes de navío, su capitán de navío director y la banda militar. 

Por todo ello, gracias Legión, porque siempre estáis con y para el pueblo, sin descuidar vuestros quehaceres militares, dentro y fuera de nuestra patria, porque una cosa no excluye la otra.

THE LEGION FAITHFUL TO TRADITION

One more year on Holy Thursday, the Brigade of the Spanish Legion, became the Army Unit, which knew how to connect with the people, not only from Malaga, but also from the rest of Spain. Either "in situ" the most privileged, or through the different television channels that broadcast the act, both of disembarkation, and accompanying the Christ of the Good Death, in the city of Malaga. Such is the expectation that this causes, that many are those who, from early hours, occupy the places of passage, so as not to miss the possibility of seeing them evolve from the front row, where also at certain times, during the stops in the march, they take the opportunity to be photographed with the soldiers of this leading Brigade.

The disembarkation of a Navy transport ship, in rows of one at a brisk pace, requires a synchronization of movements, to avoid a fall on the narrow gangway. No less synchronization has the components of the squad of spenders. With exercises in the movement of the rifle, which elicit the most effusive applause from those present. As well as the exit to the square of the picket of honors carrying the Christ of the Good Death.

All the execution of the different movements and parade is always marked by the different touches, made by the War Band of the Legion, especially the rhythm marked by the drums, decisive to give the cadence of 160 steps per minute in a parade.

The Legion Brigade, which is part of the Castillejos Division, is distinguished from other sister brigades by its special uniform (olive green) with its "chapiri" head garment. But, above all, because he knows how to connect like no other with the people, whether they are Spanish, or the locals from abroad, in the lands where he goes on mission. I witnessed the affection that the Lebanese people professed for him, since with them I had to be in the LIBRE HIDALGO I OPERATION.

While Units hide their people behind the walls of their barracks and most of them send a minimal representation to the processions, (at most a picket and the band). The Legion continues to maintain its traditions, its hymns and its songs. Who doesn't get a lump in their throat when listening to "The Bridegroom of Death"?  In addition, they spare no effort to present themselves with a "Bandera" (Battalion) or a "Tercio" (Regiment). Showing pride in taking part in an act, whether civil or religious.

Thank you, Legion, because you are always with and for the people, without neglecting your military duties, inside and outside our country, because one thing does not exclude the other.
