modalidad de Iron Man).

From the 22nd to the 27th of September, the Final of
the World Triathlon Series will be held in Pontevedra.
Triathlon is a
sport that covers three disciplines: swimming, cycling and athletics, with
different distances according to categories.
The Mini Sprint:
consists of swimming 300 meters, cycling 10 kilometers and running 2.5
kilometers.
Sprint: 750
meters swimming, 20 kilometers cycling and 5 kilometers running.
Standard: 1500
meters swimming, 40 kilometers cycling and 10 kilometers running.
Iron Man: 5 kilometers swimming, 200 kilometers cycling
and 42 kilometers running.
Pontevedra for
the second time, (the first was in 2023), is once again hosting the Grand
Final of the World Triathlon Series (in which the Iron Man modality is not
held). The Competition will begin on the 22nd and end on the 27th of this
month. Undoubtedly, one of the most eye-catching days will be the parade of the
participants by country, which will take place on the afternoon of the 23rd,
with the concentration in the Herrería and crossing Michelena Street, they will
move to the Plaza de España, to give place to the opening stop of the
Championship, with the speeches of the authorities, representatives of both
judges and athletes.
The fact that Pontevedra is hosting is actually a reward for perseverance, for more than fifteen years, it has been organizing international triathlon championships, European and World
Cups, European Championships and World Championships, it also hosted the World Multisport Triathlon twice, the last one last year. But without a doubt the World Championships and the World Final of the Series, are the icing on the cake.Pontevedra has a
good number of volunteers for this type of events of various ages, some over
seventy years old and have taken part in most events of this type. So the
accumulated experience undoubtedly helps this type of events to have a
development that makes it highly valued by federations, teams and especially by
athletes. It is worth highlighting the collaboration provided in this field by
the two military units of reference in this city: The Light Infantry Brigade
No. 7 "BRILAT" and the Naval Military School.
The Organization
is divided into two blocks, the Sports: developed by the Federations,
International, National and Autonomous and the Administrative: carried
out by the volunteers, divided by Sectors: Race Safety and Refreshments,
Protocols, Secretary and Registrations, Communication and Press, Protocol
(Medal Ceremony) and Logistics. To this end, the volunteers previously take
training courses, which allow them to carry out their tasks in the Competition. As usual during
those days the city becomes a "Tower of Babel" in terms of languages
and cultures, athletes, companions, local spectators and visitors.
On the subject
of athletes, there are three well-differentiated blocks, international elite
categories, under-21 elite and para-Olympic elite (with
participation, female, male and mixed relay events) with minimum requirements
achieved in the different series and the non-elite international by age
groups (male and female), these are of an open nature, where local athletes
with previously established registration can also take part.
The general
public, despite certain mobility setbacks, values being able to see the
evolution of famous athletes for free, in a test where the highest degree of
admiration is the tenacity shown by the Paralympians, who with their physical
limitations, achieve great challenges and are a stimulus for those who are
going through a problem and realize that other people with greater limitations
can achieve unthinkable feats for them, so they serve as encouragement and
manage to overcome their complexes and help them to get out of the labyrinth
they were in.
